Breweries in the Bay Area

We all know that California is home to some of the best Napa Valley wineries in the world, but it is also home to some top-notch breweries. From laid-back brewpubs with bay views to city microbreweries with industrial charm, there are a variety of options to choose from when deciding where you want to have your next local craft beer. Here are just 10 of the best breweries in the Bay Area.

10 Breweries in the Bay Area

Alameda Island Brewing Company

The beers brewed at Alameda Island Brewing Company go straight from barrel to bottle. From the Broadside Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged in a bourbon barrel to Neptune’s Pale Ale with a hoppy grapefruit and citrus punch, the flavors can be tasted in flights as well as pints. Tours of the microbrewery are offered, as well as an inviting outdoor patio.

Cleophus Quealy Beer Company

One of the most top-rated weekend breweries in the Bay Area, the Cleophus Quealy Beer Company creates small batch Belgian-inspired beers with an original flair. The dog-and-kid-friendly tasting room hosts a Spring Music Series, and has hosted several events, such as the March Bluegrass Jam, Chilaquiles & Chill, and Figs & Fiddles.

21st Amendment Brewery

The 21st Amendment Brewery offers a full-service pub, with San Francisco beers on tap and weekend brunch along with the regular food fare. In the heart of the new city center and just two blocks from the San Francisco Giants baseball park, the location can’t be beat. The 21st amendment repealed Prohibition, by the way, so we can all be grateful!

Drake’s Brewing Co.

Located in San Leandro, CA, Drake’s Brewing Co. has been brewing clean, high-quality, and hoppy beers since 1989. A huge draw to Drake’s is the community atmosphere and true passion for beer.

Linden Street Brewery

From the New Oakland Glow Bohemian Pilsner to the Burning Oak Black Lager, the beers of Linden Street Brewery are crafted in small batches with imported malts and fresh hops.

Fieldwork Brewing Co.

Fieldwork Brewing Co.’s tap room is located in Berkeley, CA, and offers drafts along with scrumptious bites from the kitchen. Choose from roasted almonds, tomato bisque, herbed fromage blanc, a variety of pasties, and more to wash down with your choice beer.

Diving Dog Brewhouse

Breweries in the Bay Area are prevalent, but Diving Dog Brewhouse offers BOP (brewing on the premises). Diving Dog provides the recipes, ingredients, and instruction to brew and bottle your very own beer, as well as a custom label for your creation!

Hot Polloi Brewpub and Beat Lounge

The industrial chic setting of Hot Polloi Brewpub and Beat Lounge is a draw, but the truffle popcorn and projected movies are really the kickers! This brewery is also known for live music, with a variety of hip-hop and underground artists.

Triple Voodoo Brewery

Triple Voodoo Brewery in historic San Francisco has a tap room featuring 16 rotating taps of their craft beers. From taster flights to growler fills, you can get your beer fix. Snacks are also for sale at the bar, and food from local restaurants can be ordered through the bar staff! This one is dog-friendly too.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is a favorite among both locals and the international travel community who visit us for our many natural and cultural attractions. Known for its house made craft brews, locally sourced food, and welcoming, beautiful beach-side atmosphere Half Moon Bay Brewing was selected by Travel + Leisure as one of America’s best beach bars. It comes highly recommended from our guests here at the Mill Rose Inn. They are also recognized throughout the community for more than just a stellar menu, but also their commitment to sustainable business, and giving back to local causes like education.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing company is devoted to their artisan craft as the first brewery on the San Mateo coast. They offer a large variety of their classic brews as well as creative seasonal brews. After the elaborate brewing process is completed they recycle their grains by giving them to local farmers to use as livestock feed. Their session ales include the Pace Setter Belgian Style Wit, the Back in the Saddle Rye Pale Ale, and the Pit Stop Chocolate Porter. Their Mavericks Amber Ale won bronze at the World Beer Cup 2012! You can buy their beer with a meal, or to go in a case, growler, or five gallon keg.

Their menu features some of Northern California’s most celebrated produce and livestock, all spearheaded by nationally acclaimed chef, Gaston Alfaro. You’re sure to find a fresh, seasonal meal at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co., whether you’re there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They follow the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch guides for purchasing all their seafood in order to uphold their philosophy of sustainability. Their house-made soups and chowders are a hit, as well as their scrumptious burgers, salads, and mouth-watering steaks. You won’t be disappointed with a meal at the brewery, nor will you leave hungry.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is just yards away from Mavericks, the world class surf spot famous for its annual international competition. The brewery is the closest establishment to the famous wave and streams the competition on their beach-side patio. They also host the after-party, which is one of Half Moon Bay’s biggest events of the year. When there isn’t a famous sporting event happening, you’ll be sure to find this beachy environment quiet, welcoming and cozy. If it’s a cool day you can still enjoy the view on the patio and stay warm with a fresh brew beside one of their many open fires. The view is breathtaking and your dogs are welcome to join you.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company has been a favorite in its decade of existence, and continues to improve even its staple, year-round brews, along with its seasonal beers and creative menu. If you’re in town with us at the Mill Rose Inn, this is a destination you don’t want to miss. Once you’ve enjoyed their delicious treats, treat yourself to a walk on the beach. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in our local culture, including the famous food and beverage scene of Northern California.
