Breweries in the Bay Area

We all know that California is home to some of the best Napa Valley wineries in the world, but it is also home to some top-notch breweries. From laid-back brewpubs with bay views to city microbreweries with industrial charm, there are a variety of options to choose from when deciding where you want to have your next local craft beer. Here are just 10 of the best breweries in the Bay Area.

10 Breweries in the Bay Area

Alameda Island Brewing Company

The beers brewed at Alameda Island Brewing Company go straight from barrel to bottle. From the Broadside Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged in a bourbon barrel to Neptune’s Pale Ale with a hoppy grapefruit and citrus punch, the flavors can be tasted in flights as well as pints. Tours of the microbrewery are offered, as well as an inviting outdoor patio.

Cleophus Quealy Beer Company

One of the most top-rated weekend breweries in the Bay Area, the Cleophus Quealy Beer Company creates small batch Belgian-inspired beers with an original flair. The dog-and-kid-friendly tasting room hosts a Spring Music Series, and has hosted several events, such as the March Bluegrass Jam, Chilaquiles & Chill, and Figs & Fiddles.

21st Amendment Brewery

The 21st Amendment Brewery offers a full-service pub, with San Francisco beers on tap and weekend brunch along with the regular food fare. In the heart of the new city center and just two blocks from the San Francisco Giants baseball park, the location can’t be beat. The 21st amendment repealed Prohibition, by the way, so we can all be grateful!

Drake’s Brewing Co.

Located in San Leandro, CA, Drake’s Brewing Co. has been brewing clean, high-quality, and hoppy beers since 1989. A huge draw to Drake’s is the community atmosphere and true passion for beer.

Linden Street Brewery

From the New Oakland Glow Bohemian Pilsner to the Burning Oak Black Lager, the beers of Linden Street Brewery are crafted in small batches with imported malts and fresh hops.

Fieldwork Brewing Co.

Fieldwork Brewing Co.’s tap room is located in Berkeley, CA, and offers drafts along with scrumptious bites from the kitchen. Choose from roasted almonds, tomato bisque, herbed fromage blanc, a variety of pasties, and more to wash down with your choice beer.

Diving Dog Brewhouse

Breweries in the Bay Area are prevalent, but Diving Dog Brewhouse offers BOP (brewing on the premises). Diving Dog provides the recipes, ingredients, and instruction to brew and bottle your very own beer, as well as a custom label for your creation!

Hot Polloi Brewpub and Beat Lounge

The industrial chic setting of Hot Polloi Brewpub and Beat Lounge is a draw, but the truffle popcorn and projected movies are really the kickers! This brewery is also known for live music, with a variety of hip-hop and underground artists.

Triple Voodoo Brewery

Triple Voodoo Brewery in historic San Francisco has a tap room featuring 16 rotating taps of their craft beers. From taster flights to growler fills, you can get your beer fix. Snacks are also for sale at the bar, and food from local restaurants can be ordered through the bar staff! This one is dog-friendly too.

Half Moon Bay Brewing Company

Located right near Mill Rose Inn in Half Moon Bay, this is one of our personal favorite breweries in the Bay Area. With a restaurant and brewery, as well as a huge outdoor space with beautiful views, Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is a great place to sit with friends and relax over some drinks and food. The brewery also offers beers and ales to go in bottles, 6-packs, growlers and 5 gallon kegs.

The seven “crafty” (beer) reasons to visit Half Moon Bay Brewing Company are:

  1. Mavericks Bootlegger’s Brown Ale : An English-style ale with a light body, slightly sweet and malty flavor.  Beautiful copper brown in color.
  2. Maverick’s Big Break Ale: This golden colored ale is brewed with European malt and hops.  A Half Moon Bay Brewing Company favorite, it has a remarkably lager-like flavor even though its an ale and finishes clean.
  3. Mavericks Amber Ale: This classic amber ale has a balanced yet robust flavor created by a blend of four malts and cascade hops.  Winner of the Bronze Award at the World Beer Cup.
  4. Mavericks Princeton-By-The-Sea IPA: A golden orange India Pale Ale made with seven different kinds of hops.  The flavors include grapefruit and pine.
  5. Pace Setter Belgian Style Witt: A witbier, or “white beer” is a Belgian variety brewed with barley and wheat.  Lemon peel is added to the traditional orange peel and coriander spices.
  6. Back in the Saddle Rye Pale Ale: A combination of classic English pale ale malt and American hops makes a “highly drinkable, satisfying pale ale, with the subtle accent of spicy rye malt.”
  7. Pit Stop Chocolate Porter: A dry porter with roasted barley malts and raw cocoa beans, it has subtle flavors of dark chocolate.

But those aren’t the only reasons you should pay Half Moon Bay Brewing Company a visit.  The restaurant has a menu of fresh takes on American classics including soup and salads, burgers, seafood, sandwiches and deserts. There is also some southwest fare like tacos and tostadas. Live music and events are a regular occurrence at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.  Brews and Views allows visitors to enjoy a cold beer and take in a talk on American politics.
